Now before delving deep into various argumentative doctrines on homeschooling, let’s just look into the basics of this rapidly evolving trend. The first question we are going to deal with involves the reason behind homeschooling. What are the unique aspects of homeschooling? Why do people tend to prefer this mode of education over public schooling? Due to the independent, state-specific educational system in America, public schools are accessible to all free of charge. For working parents not belonging to the elite segments of the society, the rationale behind choosing public schools is quite self-explanatory. The quality of education in a public institution is bound to suffer due to large number of students and inadequacy of teaching tools. Albeit the student-teacher ratio is quite healthy in American public schools especially at the primary level, it still is not enough for every child to get the required attention. Moreover, children studying at public schools are taught a similar curriculum. If a particular child has different fields of interest, it is not encouraged to develop skills and knowledge on those lines. The imaginative faculties of mind slowly become blunt and ineffectual due to the institutionalized methods of teaching. Homeschooling, on the other hand, is helpful for identifying a child’s interests and unique areas of talent. Hence, education does not become a loathsome burden for the children. By relating to what they are taught, they can enjoy while they learn (Rockett 138). Most families belonging to minority groups regard homeschooling to be the best available option for their kids. This is because those children are hardly paid attention to by their local teachers at public schools (Saba Gattis 3). It is never wise to send children with physical or mental deformities to public schools. The span and extent of attention they need can never be expected from teachers who have to look after a class of pupils. It is far better to keep those children at home and build up the required infrastructure with teaching aids. Hiring a teacher at home is a plausible solution in such cases. By resolving to one-on-one teaching modes, a challenged kid’s potential can be maximized. News of massacres, illegal drug trafficking and teen sexuality hit the headlines frequently in the US. Researches show that parents who are aware of these events choose homeschooling to ensure safety of their kids. These parents feel they can control the company of their children if they learn from home. Moreover, in the US public schools, many children hail from troubled families and tend to act violently and in a bullying manner towards other students. The student can make the required shift from one level to another without having to skip any of the important learning modules. However, some shortcomings of this educational model are also there, especially the accusation that little kids do not get the chance to interact socially with others. It can be easily assumed that almost everyone has heard the tale of the American Indian princess, Pocahontas – the narrative of a mysterious young girl who rescues an English explorer from death only to fall in love and win his affections in return. It is one that is quite popular and has even been developed into an animated movie by Walt Disney Pictures. Regardless of which version they may have heard, most people are familiar with the legend now thanks in part to Disney. However, what they are not familiar with, are the facts. All too often, we accept what is presented in films as history without any thought into the matter. Did Pocahontas and explorer John Smith ever actually meet? If so, how did they, and was there ever the feeling of love between them? There are similarities, but more differences between historical fact and what is presented in the Walt Disney motion picture.Aside from obvious deviations of the film, such as the language , there are others including how Pocahontas and Smith meet, which they did in fact do. In the movie from the beginning, Pocahontas is an independent, curious woman who stumbles upon the English settlement. As a result, Captain Smith notices her and assures her that he will do her no harm. The two instantly warm to one another. While this makes a wonderful opening for a movie – we view a great scene of the English working hard to establish a settlement – it is not how they met at all. In his book Pocahontas and Her World, Philip L. Barbour offers a more accurate account of the two’s first meeting. He explains that John Smith was the one who was adventuring, not Pocahontas (as Disney depicts). He says that "on or about December 29, 1607" , Smith was led into the chief’s hut as a "prisoner" by Indian braves. Inside, he witnessed chief Powhatan – Pocahontas’ father – lying in comfort, surrounded by women he thought to be the chief’s wives . According to Barbour, Smith was treated well and given food and drink. What happened next was more exciting than a modern day film could depict, but also very complicated to explain in a film geared toward younger audiences. After some dicussion among the elders, "two big stones were brought in, and Smith was forcibly stretched out on them.

1. Why does the organization need to collect HR data? The organization needs to collect HR Data in order to comply with regulatory legislative requirements such as, working time directive, health and safety and pay rates etc. It is also a legal requirement to provide written particulars of employment. By collecting these examples of HR data, this protects the organization from possible legal implications. The organization also needs to collect training and productivity records of employees in order for management to assess performance and productivity of staff. By collecting this data the organization can assign training to employees in order for them to enhance their potential and help the workforce to become more productive. 2. Types of Data Collected The organization must collect data such as a sickness record. This allows HR to make an accurate attendance record of all employees and helps to identify employees who have higher levels of sickness. This data can then be used in order to discourage this behavior or used for those who suffer with long term sickness who need the organisation’s support. For our organization the Bradford Factor sickness policy was brought in so that the sickness records were to be collected periodically and assessed. Another type of data collected is personal information of each employee such as contact details. This ensures that all correspondence can be sent to each employee in regards to pay, contracts or leave information. It is important to have this information as well as details of next of kin or a family member in case of an accident at work so that the organization can contact them as soon as possible. 3. Storing records and the benefits One method of storing information is the manual system. This could include a filing cabinet, wall planners, Company handbooks, Diaries, Application forms etc. By using the manual system the records are easily accessible. The records may also be signed which may be required for legal purposes. The manual system has no risk of crashing or losing power, unlike a computer, which may delay the retrieval of important information. Another method of storing information is the computerized method. This method allows records to be saved on the computer and protected by a password ensuring that only certain people within the organization are able to retrieve the personal records. There is no risk of information being misplaced, misfiled or lost entirely as you might find with the manual storing system. Another advantage of using the computerized method is the fact that it is easy to find the information and is easily stored. This method allows a smaller office to run smoothly without the need for large filing cabinets and is also a more environmentally friendly method of storing information. 4. Two essential items of UK legislation relating to the recording, storage and accessibility of HR data The first essential item of UK Legislation is the Data Protection Act 1998. This act states that the recording of personal data should be adequate, relevant and not excessive in relation to the purpose or purposes for which they are processed. The FOI gives you the right to ask the HR department (or any public body) for all the information you have on any subject they choose. Unless there’s a good reason, the organisation must provide the information within 20 working days. You can also ask for all the personal information they hold on you. Conclusion Following the summary of facts as stated above, it has been found that it is very important to record, analyse and use HR data in order for the organization to operate within the appropriate legislative regulations, retain confidential information in a safe and efficient method and to use HR data in order to improve and increase productivity within the workforce.

Recovering latent parts of a story The Buck - 1469 Words

In the short story entitled The Buck written by Joyce Carol Oates, we are introduced to two quite interesting characters, namely Melanie Snyder and Wayne Woody Kunz. These two characters both struggle with different aspects of their personal lives; in Wayne Kunzs case, he is in constant battle with his manhood, whereas Melanie Snyder has somewhat renounced her femininity. Her very appearance when we first see her in the story is quite strange, because she is seen dressed in her brothers clothes which mask her feminine side. Both of these characters in this story are representative of many persons today whose identities remain latent for a part or even all of their lives. Some are able to be reconciled to their true selves, but others†¦show more content†¦At this point in the story, it seems as if Melanie Snyder would be released from her masculine way of life, and once more claim her stifled femininity. This hope is however short-lived, as we see Melanie clinging to the reli cs of her brothers, as if she is desperately clinging to their masculinity. When one examines the lives of both Wayne Kunz and Melanie Snyder, it reveals that the real events by which Oates characters are motivated lie deep within the protean chaos of [their personalities] (G. F Waller, page 4). The chaos in this story comes to a climax when both characters come face to face. Wayne has apparently reclaimed his manhood, for he is seen with his bow uplifted and he is in hot pursuit of the buck. At this point, it seems as if while Wayne is in hot pursuit of the buck, his masculinity begins to manifest itself. At this point he is far removed from the silly-looking character who we first met at the beginning of the story. In contrast, Melanie Snyders appearance still reveals how detached she is from her feminine side. She is wearing a soiled sheepskin jacket several sizes too large for her, a relic belonging to one of her brothers; her boots are rubberized fishing boots, the castoffs of another, long-deceased brother (Oates 135).
